Mechanical filters (Micro Filtration)
One of the most effective means to remove suspended particles from water is
by means of mechanical filters. These
can be utilized to remove suspended material such as sand,
silt, clay and organic matter from water. Since these
mechanical filters are incapable of removing dissolved
or very fine particles from water; more often than not,
they are used in combination with other treatment equipment.
The filters used in mechanical filtration
systems are commonly made of fabric, fiber, ceramic
or other such screening material. Generally mechanical
filters are cartridge units that are mounted in a single
waterline or on a tap. They can also be installed on a
tank unit - in which case, they treat and clean the water
supply of the entire household. For effective decontamination,
it must be ensured that these filters are serviced periodically.
